I don't believe it's a coincidence that I began teaching about the root chakra the week following Mother's Day. As the root chakra begins to develop in utero. For me, I always have mixed feelings about Mother's Day because I don't have a good relationship with my mother. This fact is one reason I don't have children, stemming from fear that I would have fallen into dysfunctional familial patterns. I also realized yesterday that another reason I don't have children of my own is because I had to learn how to be a mother to myself for most of my life. It hasn't been easy to lay the foundation of my life down without any good examples of health and vitality In my family of origin. I've spent my adult life teaching myself through studying psychology, child development, yoga philosophy, surrounding myself with motherly figures, learning from those that I meet along the way, taking in as much wisdom as possible so that I can build the temple of my body and my life on a sturdy foundation. Piece by piece it has happened. The road was bumpy and very ugly at times as I began to shed unhealthy thoughts and behaviors that were rooted deep within. I'm not perfect and consider myself always a work in progress, a constant transformation in each season of my life from caterpillar to butterfly. I share this, in case it may resonate with someone who reads this. Your blood line doesn't need to define who you are, as you mature within yourself You get to choose who You are. For me yoga was a saving grace, it taught me that love is my true nature and for that I am eternally grateful. I teach yoga because I have experienced it's healing magic and consider it one of my contributions in making the world a more loving, whole, healthy and conscious place.
