Yoga Therapy

What is Yoga Therapy?

According to the International Association of Yoga Therapists: "Yoga Therapy is the professional application of the principles and practices of yoga to promote health and well-being within a therapeutic relationship that includes personalized assessment, goal setting, lifestyle management, and yoga practices for individuals or small groups."

Yoga Therapy is a holistic approach to wellness that incorporates physical, emotional, and spiritual elements of the practice. Through my teaching under the name Blissful Butterfly Yoga, I use my expertise as a Comprehensive Yoga Therapist, with a trauma-informed lens, to help you balance yourself in practical and playful ways to support self-love and stress relief.

 

How is Yoga Therapy Different from Yoga?

While both Yoga Therapy and traditional yoga involve postures and breathing techniques, Yoga Therapy is a more personalized and therapeutic approach. In a yoga therapy session, your therapist will work with you to create a personalized program that meets your specific needs, taking into account your health history, current symptoms, and lifestyle.

I use a combination of breathing, movement,  mindfulness, and draw on the wisdom of yoga philosophy lenses such as energetic hygiene of the chakras, the yoga 8-fold path, and nutrition of the entire being, to deepen your understanding of the true breadth of yoga. This supports your overall wellness by learning how to bring yoga into your life.  I utilize conversation and assessments to personalize the education and practices.  Goals are set during each session to provide accountability for supporting changes you want to make in your life. My style is practical yet playful. My approach is trauma-informed.

*It's important to note that while Yoga Therapy can be a helpful complementary intervention for some conditions, it should not be used as a substitute for conventional medical treatment. If you have a medical condition, it's important to talk to your doctor before starting any new form of therapy, including yoga therapy.
