Slow Down

This week's Savasana reading, perhaps it resonates with you....Savasana is sometimes the hardest yoga pose of all. It's where you lay on the ground to rest and relax at the end of practice. When I first started practicing I would skip the pose because I didn't understand It's importance- I wanted to move- laying still was uncomfortable especially for my mind that constantly needed to be doing something. Slowly over time I was able to appreciate the final relaxation and it then became one of my favorite places to be. Allowing the body and mind to rest gives us time to integrate. In our human life the world at large is constantly expecting things from us- do more, be more, don't ever get bored, don't ever be still- we are programmed to believe that self care is selfish and that slowing down is lazy. We never learn about who we really are beyond the physical expectations placed upon us by society. We learn that burning the candle at both ends is exciting and you must do that NOW to reap the rewards LATER. What if I told you that was all bullshit? True power and happiness lies inside my friends. How we find it is by slowing down and taking time to get to know ourselves on the deepest internal levels. When this type of power and happiness is found no one can take it away. Fear not if you have no idea what you are doing on the yoga mat, we all started somewhere- in my classes I playfully guide mindful movement connected with breathing and sweetly lead you into rest at the end. Give yourself the gift of yoga.
