Follow your dreams, never give up

Updated: Sep 19, 2023

This weekend I attended my first Symposium for Yoga Therapy and Research since becoming certified. Below are pictures and videos from the weekend. Being a Yoga Therapist was a dream of mine, planted in 2017 during the most devastating year of my adult life. It was a year of shattering and becoming.

The story began in 2015 when I left my hometown of Philadelphia and bought a house in Collingswood NJ with my then-boyfriend. We lived there for less than 2 years, and metaphorically, I died in that house 3 times.

Three break-ups occurred there, the last one was when I ended our engagement to be married on 12.25.2016. The next day, I sought evaluation at a psychiatric hospital, as I felt lost. The relationship triggered all of my childhood trauma. Then came 2017 with a bang. I sold the house, lost contact with my ex's children, lost my job of 9 years due to budget cuts, lost a yoga teacher training, and lost a car in an accident. It felt like my life burned to the ground. I was raw, in my messiest chrysalis moment.

In that darkness, after losing my job, I spent a month at an Ashram in Virginia, Yogaville, where I first heard about Yoga Therapy. It was there that I decided to become a Yoga Therapist.

Though intimidating, I was determined. I found a school that resonated and I enrolled. From 2019 to 2021, I studied Comprehensive Yoga Therapy at YogaLife Institute. The three-year program taught me to apply yogic principles for balance in all aspects of life. It laid a sturdy foundation after the Universe stripped away what wasn't aligned with my authentic Self. The metamorphosis I went through inspired my business name: Blissful Butterfly Yoga.

Now, I help others find balance through Yoga Therapy. I share vulnerable bits of my story, recovering from developmental and spiritual trauma, to inspire others to do the work of transforming times of crisis into tools to foster strength, courage, deeper understanding and resiliency. My story is a reminder that is it through the darkness that we find the light.

*Take note that I also engaged in talk therapy for several years to aid in my recovery
